The Friendly Patriots and the Wise Pumas faced each other last night in the PG County championship game that entertained to the finished. The Patriots were led by school star QB Sherrod Baltimore who has committed to play at Maine in the fall as an football player continued to show he is a complete athlete.
Undersized Friendly took a commanding lead early on forcing the Pumas to adjust to there non-stop running offense. They were making it easy to finish under the basket by beating everyone down court after missed baskets on the other side but Wise weren’t ready to make it that easy with their home fans in attendance.
Junior Joseph Lundy came out in the second quarter taking it right to the heart of the Patriots zone defense cutting the lead to 33-27 going into the half. Lundy led all scores and had his season high 26 points in the contest. The game was close from that point on in a second half full of baskets under the rim that resulted in free throws or fast breaks.
Neither team would let up which took it to a 59-59 overtime.
This game came down to the heart of one Patriot who was hobbling his was threw the 4th quarter and OT but determined to win making tough baskets and grabbing near impossible rebounds, that’s senior Davon Morton. He put his team on his back and gave them all the momentum they needed to finish out strong, and they did. The final score was 71-68, Patriots for this ship. The seniors from Fort Washington left everything on the court in this game and it showed. Morton finished with 20, Baltimore 21.
